Caught in the Wind

"Caught in the Wind"
Oil, 6" x 6" on canvas panel.
Sold.

We are back in town from the family vacation and I am trying to get caught up on everything. I have six commissions due this month and two more requests that came in today. Am I the only artist that gets stressed out with commissions? I am always terrified that my client won't like them! Your thoughts and suggestions?

  2. Commissions are stressful, especially if the client is very attached to the scene and has a picture in their mind of the painting. But they wouldn't have asked you to do it, unless they wanted to see the view through your eyes. I'm sure you will do a great job and the buyer will love it! I hope you will post the result.

  5. The upside to commissions is that often it stretches you a bit in terms of subject matter, design, colors, etc. and because you are thrust into doing something you wouldn't normally choose. Kind of like having someone go shopping with you and getting you to try on something that left to your own devices you wouldn't have and you end up loving it. And trust that they like you and your work. There are a zillion painters, and they chose you to do the piece--how cool is that. So relax into it, infuse it with your joy and energy and they won't be able to wipe the grin off their face when they see the finished painting. They are gonna love it and you will have a special relationship with these people now because you have created something together. It's exciting to see how many good things are happening to you and your art...:)

  6. Hi Leslie..
Glad you're back. Sorry you're stressed.

I'd LOVE to hear more about your commissions... How people contact you, etc. Do they give you a photo of what they want??? Do they want boats.... or specific boats.. (like THEIRS)... Do they want palette knife work...

I think what Dreama had to say was just perfect!!... I ditto that!

  7. Hi Leslie,
I love the sailboat series: the compositions, cropping and just the great energy you bring to these. Lovely!
