I am happy to report that this painting and it's companion (which was posted yesterday, on Day One) both sold. In fact, the buyer has requested a third painting to go with these two so I am really excited to paint another companion piece! I don't know if you can see the oil pastel that I added in to this painting. I used both gold and blue pastels and then used a great matte varnish to seal the paintings. The varnish looks great!

Congrats to all of the artists participating in the #jan30in30 Challenge. We now have 1,146 artists participating in the challenge! It is amazing to see all of your paintings. Many of you posted your paintings here on my blog. I know some of you had technical questions and I apologize that I wasn't able to help all of you. Fortunately all of the answers to your questions are already posted on the Thirty Paintings in 30 Days website here

Now ... a little bit more about painting abstracts. I think painting groups of paintings (with similar style, colors, etc.) is a really good idea when you are painting abstracts. Some of you asked how I painted two similar paintings. I started painting on both canvases simultaneously (up to about 25% of completion) and then focused all of my attention on one. Once I decided the first one was close to completion I began working on the second painting. Then I finished both paintings with the oil pastel highlights.

I mentioned in my post yesterday that I am creating four color palettes for my abstracts: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. These two paintings are part of my Fall color palette. (And yes, there is green in the fall palette, just not in these paintings.)

Here is the photo of the two paintings together. (They really are square, my iphone wasn't quite straight when I took this picture!) I will retake the photograph when the third one is done!

I hope you are enjoying this Challenge as much as I am. We only have 28 paintings left! Tee hee!
