If you haven't figured it out by now, there is a method to my madness in asking you to do certain things to be eligible for my 12 Days of Christmas giveaway. Most of them are to prepare you to get ready for 2104. By having to go back and decide on your favorite painting for this past year, I am hoping the process will lead to some good things for 2014. The same goes for having you choose your greatest success, biggest marketing challenge and suggest a topic for the AHA show. I am hoping the process you had to go through to identify these things will help you with your goals for next year.

Keeping in the AHA spirit, to be eligible for the 12 Days of Christmas Day 8 giveaway, all you need to do is share something you do to stay organized. This "tip" can occur in your studio, your office, your computer or when you are painting plein air. Just think of a tip, website or great tool you use that helps you stay organized. I can't tell you how much these ideas will help every single one of us! I will be forever grateful.

My best tool for staying organized is using the "Task" feature on the Google calendar. Many categories can be created and they are available on all my devices for easy entry and access. For the iPad and iPhone, I use the "GoTask" app that has its own icon on my desktop toolbar. My categories include: A list, B list, art supplies,errands, quotes, art projects, studio tour planning, travel, and the like. Due dates can be added, which come up in red at the appropriate time. Once an item is on one of my lists, it's no longer bouncing in my head. And I know where to find it when needed.
Being a teacher in my former life taught me to make areas in a space for different functions. I have the supplies area with color coded boxes, the mailing and shipping area with boxes, packing material tape etc, The easel area with paper, paint and paper towels, etc. My studio basically has "zones" the provide different functions. I know the patterns of where everything is and where to find it with my eyes closed. Yes.. I learned this teaching kindergarten. Where you have to find things quickly and efficiently.
I love the FREE printable planners Charlie Gilkey has available at productiveflourishing.com. The planners are geared toward creative people, and are so helpful for planning out projects, blog content, and more. I print them out and put them in my studio binder (Thank You Leslie for that tip!). It all helps keep me focused on my projects and goals, especially on time-crunched days.
I'm pretty dependent on Evernote. It's an app for the iPhone and iPad and there is even a desktop version. I put just about everything in there - all my plans, my art, my customer requests, cool stuff I find on the internet. it has a very cool "web clipping" feature that lets me save web pages right to Evernote.
