A Late Night

Late Afternoon Sail, Oil 8" x 10"
I should call this painting "late night sail" as it is almost midnight and I just finished it! I had fun with it and I like the colors, I just took forever because I couldn't keep my eyes off the Laker game ... while I was supposed to be painting!
As a mother of three boys I am a HUGE SPORTS FAN. I really do love sports. My favorite sports are whatever sports my boys are playing. This afternoon was my absolute favorite scenario ... three boys all playing in three different games/events ... at the high school we had a baseball game, volleyball game and swim meet all at the same time. I actually managed to see all four of my son's swimming events, most of the volleyball game and all of my middles son's "at bats". He was also pitching and I saw the majority of his "time on the mound". And the best news, we went 3 - 0 today, so they all came home happy. Oh yeah, the Lakers won too!

Beautiful painting! And, whew, high-energy day! You got to all of those events--miracle mom! Does sound like fun! Do you do sports paintings, paintings of your boys? Congrats on the Laker's win :-)

Love the way the black and white boats pop out of the saturated colors...it takes on a graphic, sharp appeal! That graphic color contrast makes a very nice contrast to the knife/paintstokes....love it!

Liz - thanks. I haven't yet painted the boys but I have been thinking about it. Plus ... they keep asking!
Rahina - glad you like the colors. I thought it would be fun to try something different with the colors.

Leslie, I don't know how I've missed your blog up until now, but I have to say, delicious looking paintings. You are a master with colour and the knife.

Sandra- I was a little "out there" on the colors on this one ... perhaps the "late night" had some impact. I think I am going to re-take the photo because it looks much better in the flesh!
Dana & Becky - thanks so much for all of your nice comments.
Vern - welcome to my blog. I went ot your and left a comment - excellent!

I'm totally addict to your blog now (I'm one of your followers now!)
It's such a nice treat for my eyes.
I love your colors - especially the greenish water with reddish reflections - what a clever way of using complementary colors!
Just love it!

Nice, nice composition, Leslie. The black and white really draw the eye to the lower left. And I love the layers of color. I don't know how you did that so late after such a busy day--I'm usually toast after a day like that with my three girls...

Wow... that red really works in the green water! Great color sense... love it.
