Longing For the Weekend ... I Think

The Race, Oil 10" x 8"
Fridays have a way of sneaking up on me. It is so wonderful to finish up a week and think about a relaxing for a few days. But now that I have a BLOG, all I can think about is "how many paintings can I finish this weekend so I can get ahead?". I don't know how many artists have Type A personalities, but I am guilty as charged. The fact that I will paint until midnight, just so I can have a painting to post that day, clearly explains it ...
I also forgot to mention that I am in charge of a HUGE fundraiser for the school next weekend and there is still a lot to do ... big silent auction ... and lots of coordination left. I have begged everyone for donations and I think it is going to be a wonderful event so I am excited ... but exhausted just thinking about it. I also need to find (or create) two paintings to donate. So ... keep your fingers crossed that I can paint a ton and get a jump on the upcoming week!

what a hectic life, Leslie! what is the fundraising for? and this painting is fantastic, i feel dizzy looking at it, you've really captured the movement dangerously, beautifully. r.

This is wonderful. You have really captured the poise of that boat under sail. I can feel her gently rolling over those small swells. It brings back a lot of memories!

Mike - Thank you! There is a lot of paint on this one, I can tell you that!
Rahina - The fundraiser is for the athletic department at my boys' school.
Trish - thanks! Glad to bring back the memories. Funny though, I paint all of these boats and I don't even like to sail ...

Leslie - you are the queen of the palette knife and multi-tasking both!

I can totally relate to the chaos--the school auction is an enormous undertaking. Good luck with it. Love the sailboat. The composition is lovely.

Liz and Julie - Glad you like the sailboat. The paint is a bit thick but it was a fun undertaking. Not as much fun as the fundraiser though! Then again ...

Thank you so much, Leslie, for visiting my blog and leaving your remark, which made my day!!!
I'm a newcomer to the cyber world and hardly get any comment on my works. So you have no idea how jubilant I was when I saw your encouragement yesterday.
I love "The Race" - it's more dynamic and even bolder than other works that I have seen so far.
Great touch! No wonder you have fans lined up to say something everyday. Do you show your paintings at any galleries around here? I live in Orange County and love to check it out if you do.
And good luck with your paintings for the fundraiser.

Peter,
Thank you for so many kind comments! I just started my blog in January so I know how nice it is to receive comments. They make my day too.
I am not in any galleries yet, other than juried competitions. In fact, that will be the subject of one of my next posts - how do I go about approaching galleries? I guess that is the next big step!

This is an awesome one, very bold and full of movement. Love it.

I think we all feel some of that "daily blogger" pressure. !

Hi Leslie - I have been battling to leave a comment as my computer keeps throwing me out - fingers crossed.
Thanks for visiting my blog and I absolutely love the way you paint - those thick, juicy brushstrokes with lovely paint. Have you on blog list now so I can keep track! (I see you also are sports mad - albeit different sports! My loves are cricket and rugby, not know in your part of the world!)

Liz and Cathyann - All of my paintings are done with a palette knife. The only time I use a brush is when it comes times to sign the canvas. I turn over the brush and "scratch in" my signature! Thanks for your comments.

Thank you for leaving a comment at my blog. It is much appreciated. I am astounded at what you achieve with your limited palette! The energy in this painting is fantastic. I haven't picked up a palette knife in years but you've tempted me now. I will add your blog link to mine unless you have an objection...Glad we've connected

HI Leslie,

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Your paintings are wonderful! I struggle with boats. Yours are wonderful. I too love the freedom of painting with a palette knife. LAtely I have been trying to do more painting with a brush. It's a whole new adventure for me- using a brush. But cleaning them is certainly not fun!
So glad to have found your blog. Your paintings are very inspiring!

I like the blue boat with the water. Very strong piece. You won't be arrested if you don't post a new painting everyday.

Leslie, your paintings are so vibrant and colorful, even though you use a limited palette. You can just feel the energy that went into each painting. I think you have achieved your goal of capturing the light. Each of your paintings is proof of that.

Leslie!

Of all your recent posts this painting has the liveliest brushstrokes IMHO. Lots of movement in the brushwork here.

Keep it up!
