City Hall Reflections

City Hall Reflections, Oil, 6" x 8"
I am still having fun this week with my "reflections" theme. I thought I would try a "rain" painting and I love the "city hall" reflection in this one. I hope the pink umbrella isn't too vivid, but the other colors in the painting were so dull and I wanted to liven up the painting somehow! I might enter this one in the small works juried competition but I am just not sure. Any comments or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

What a great painting. Love the reflection of city hall. Amazing!

I really like this one - especially the pink - maybe pink is the new orange. Whoever it is you painted should thank you for making her look so skinny! You could make a gazillion dollars with photoshop in oil painting! - ml

This would make a nice entry! The trio of pink - the umbrella, jacket, and reflection all work together to make the painting. Seeing the perky pink on a gray day makes a nice statement. The reflection is nice especially since the city hall isn't pictured.
I have enjoyed a grand tour of your work. Your Hawaii landscapes are awesome.

Thanks Mary Liz! I think painitng skinny people is easier than dieting any day! Maybe that is my new plan ...

Jill,
Welcome to my blog! I am so glad you found me and I love your blog. Especially the fact that you post your reference picture in addition to your beautiful paintings. Thanks also for your encouragement.

It is much better than seeing the actual city hall! Great composition and mood!!

I just love this. The feeling, composition and balance of color is just great at first sight. Then the subject and the wonderful reflections. I like the pink umbrella and the reflection of it on the wet ground. Having had 3 boys now grown, I am really enjoying pink. Love this.

Hi Leslie, I'm enjoying your palette knife technique. I could look at it all day! I'm gonna email you an idea...

Leslie, like seemingly everything you undertake, your painting is exquisite. The variety of your subjects, the descriptions as to the how's and why's that got you to each painting read like wonderful, loving glimpses into your (very full) life and what propels you to paint. While I am neither an art critic nor collector, your work looks as professional, polished and evocative as paintings I have seen in galleries from Madison Avenue to Santa Fe. Awesome and awe-inspiring to add "painter/artist" to an already full repertoire of amazing accomplishments and achievements. Congratulations!

Fondly,

Leslie,
I LOVE the pink umbrella. Afterall, you will be wearing alot of pink as soon as you start your training for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk. So who knows you might be painting with Pink too!
THINK PINK!!

Bonnie - you are so sweet to say such nice things. I miss you my dear! Let's do lunch soon, ok?

Michele - I love pink! And I am actually doing some "pre-training" to get ready for the training for the walk ... nothing like being prepared ... so when do we start? I am thinking pink ...

I love the pink much nicer than yellow?
Great piece of art.

First, your work is fantastic! I'm a big fan of palette knife paintings.

I know I'm new to your blog but I'm going to disagree with you about the colors in this painting being dull. Since it is a rainy day the colors should be muted. I like that most of the foreground is quiet in color because I notice the reflection that helps me enter the painting. Then I see the pink umbrella and just beyond that are lovely little spots of color in your focal area that holds my interest. Because the bold color isn't everywhere it makes me appreciate it even more.

Ultimately, you have to do what you feel is best for the painting. I think it's a very strong painting as it is. Really beautiful! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work!

No WAY is the pink too vivid. It's the perfect foil to the other colors. I agree with Kim, too, that I look to the other little spots of color after the umbrella.
Enter it!!

Enter it! This painting is a small gem. Your balance of color (neutral and vivid) and shape (small and large) is perfect. Great composition too!

I just adore that pink umbrella.

Enter it! This is a gem - almost works as an abstract too.
